RELATIONSHIPS
This week, the difference between the United States and Italy that I will talk about is relationships. I might be a little biased because I spend a lot of time with my teammates, which means that most of my source's information comes from guys. So, feel free to argue and let me know what you think.
I have been to multiple colleges, but Bradley is the biggest one among them and also the one with more opportunities for on- and off-campus activities. Therefore, this is a much more active school than the other ones I have attended before, where I have had the opportunity to meet and interact with many students.
Starting off with the United States, according to my sources (and what I have heard around), people in the U.S., especially in college, tend to get intimate in a really short period of time, which then may eventually lead to the beginning of a relationship. Most of the time, if they do not feel a good connection in the beginning in that sense, there are high chances that there will never be anything serious between them or that they will even see each other again.
On the other hand, in Italy, it is exactly the opposite. Indeed, in most cases, after two people meet and like each other, they spend time seeing and getting to know one another. They are curious about the other person and want to know as much as possible to understand whether they like their personality or not. After a period where this takes place, they may come to the conclusion that they like and trust each other enough to get to a more intimate level. In Italy, it usually takes a few months for a couple to have intimacy, while here in the U.S., this happens much quicker.
Another big difference is that in the U.S., when couples are more serious, they meet each other's parents after two or three months, which from my point of view and what I am used to, is incredible. That’s because, in Italy, a girl won't introduce you to her parents unless she knows you are really serious, which, as mentioned before, takes a long time to be determined. The main reason is that meeting each other's families is considered pretty important; therefore, it takes much more than just three months for this to happen.
It is always a pleasure to get to know the similarities and differences between these two countries, and it is interesting to hear from other people’s perspectives and experiences. So, let me know what you think.
